Sally Has Five Kittens!

Sad News About Chester(8/20/2006)

On August 21, 2006, Chester was diagnosed with feline leukemia. Chester had been acting very un-catlike for several weeks; slowly becoming more lethargic every day. We had hoped that it was just some transitory problem, but that turned out to not be true. We had no choice but to put Chester down on the 21st, at Dr, Flesher’s office on Buckhannon. He is greatly missed by all. Hs best friend, and sister, Possum has been force to walk the creek in the evenings alone. Very sad…

Sally BEFORE the kittens were born...

(9/26/2005) This is our newly adopted kitty, named Sally. She showed up around the Towers some weeks back now, and it turns out she was pregnant. Right now Sally is VERY pregnant and we are expecting little kittens any time now. Sally is a small cat, probably not a year old yet, and we can feel at least 3 or 4 kittens at this point, although I would not be surprised to discover that there are up to 6 kittens ready to pop out.

We'll keep you advised as to the progress of this medical situation...

Kitten Update 1 (10/23-24/2005)

Here are a group of photos from the 23rd and 24th of October. The numbers below the pictures identifies the kittens by their birth order. (The numbers will range from left to right, except where noted.)

The dogs are displaying a range of reactions to their new step-siblings: Tucker shows friendly interest and is very gentle with the kittens; he always checks them out when passing the nest. Annie is VERY wary of the newcomers, and has NOT forgiven us for bringing that damned Sally into the house. Ruby has embraced the kittens with opened arms. She absolutely loves them and has already started playing with them, in her own, clumsy fashion.

As far as the kittens are concerned, they seem to have accepted all the dogs as kin, and are starting to follow, chase, and play with the closest canine cousin.

Sally has moved all the kittens form the shower stall, in the first-floor bath, into the storage space under the stairs, which we use as a pantry. The kittens are no free to escape into the dining room and kitchen whenever they choose---which is quite often now!

Kitten Update 2(10/30-11/10/2005)

Here are a group of photos from the 30th of October through November 10.

The kittens are VERY ACTIVE now, much to the dogs dismay. They are pretty much everywhere on the first floor. The kitties ears are sitting up now and they are looking more cat-like. All five kittens are eating solid food and using the particulate-clay waste storage device (aka, litter box).

There is some worry that the littens are growing up thinking that they are really dogs. All the dogs, even Annie, have accepted the fact that the cats are here to stay. The dogs are very interested in the posterior ends of the kitties and the kitties are very interested in biting dog feet. Whatever works!

The kitties have shared some type of rhino virus and are all on a couple of antibiotics. More boat payments for our local veterinary. All are showing signs of healing and are doing fine.
