Our House

It's very difficult to describe our new house in Vadis, WV. Just look at it. How would you describe it to someone who could not see the picture. The best we can come up with is a cross between a Swiss Chalet and a Cubist painting. It's pretty big by West Virginia standards, at least around Vadis---somewhere around 3,000 square feet. There are many levels in the house. There are the standard first, second and third floors. But, we also have several half floors---a guest room level, workshop level and there are really 3 different levels on the third floor! We love it.

But it is NOT perfect, that's for sure. (Else why call it Quirky Towers?!) The first floor is something less than level. It seems like there was quite a struggle to get the various parts of the house to fit together. The dogs love it because you cannot set a ball on the floor without it moving somewhere. (A lot of the balls end up in the corner of the dining room!) And then there are the stairs. They are just not quite right. a little quirky, one might say. But you get used to all of that stuff and we hardly ever trip down the steps anymore!

We originally saw the place first in March of 2002. Well, actually I (Rick) was the first one to see the house. I fell in love with it and made an offer before Liz could get down to see it. Sounds a little risky in retrospect but everything worked out fine, obviously. Liz and her sister were able to get down to see the place the following weekend and both loved it also. When I first saw the place, it was pourng down rain. In fact, more than 3 inches of rain had fallen that week and the creek was over its banks and EVERYTHING was soggy and mud caked. By May 10th we had sold our house in Baltimore, settled on Quirky Towers and actually started moving our stuff into the place.

If you would like to see the original site that we put together to let our friends and family see what we had found in West Virginia you can just click on the button below. It was a bit of a rush job but everyone thought that we had lost our minds and we wanted to (at least) let them know that we would not be living in some hunting cabin with no modern amentities.

There have been many small, and large, projects in the short time we have been here in Vadis. Since we are new to this back to the country thing we have tried to keep visual records of what we've accomplished. If you are interested in seeing some of these projects, just click on any of the buttons below.
