2003 Irish Spring Festival

On Saturday, March 15th, Liz and I Visited lovely Ireland, West Virginia. On that day, the folks of Ireland opened their town for a parade and celbration of Spring and Saint Patrick's Day. (Although, it was THE MOST sober Saint Patrick's Day I have EVER seen!) The entire town is decked in green shamrocks and the parade is one of the best we've seen around here...

This house greets you as you enter Ireland along Route 19 in Lewis Coutnty...   Even the cement geese got into the action...

This rainbow made the front page of the weston Democrat and the Clarksburg paper.   You can't tell from this picture, but there are little folk ALL over the yard!

There were plenty of young kids to help set the proper mood.
And what would a public event be without Melvin and Bum the Wonder Horse?!
Bum and Melvin work so well together you sometimes wonder who is training who!
Bum and Melvin are pushing Melvin's wife as part of the after show clean up.
There is even Section 8 housing for bluebirds in West Virginia!
The local county constabulary was well represented for the celebrations and parade.
Here you see on of the many parade units heading for the starting point of the parade.
I was NEVER able to find where these folks got those hats. I REALLY wanted one...
The flags were up and waving and it was time for the parade to start...
And the county canine unit makes the start of the pareade official.
Ireland is in the southeast corner of the county, past Walkersville. So, the Walkersvill VFD is an honored part of the parade.
Truck 42 was loaded with proud company members as they passed in review.
These lovely banner ladies are leading the way for the King and Queen of the Irish spring Festival.   While the Royals are VERY important, is this a BEUATIFUL tractor, or what?!
