Principles of Extrication Class

October 18th, 2003

Bridgeport Fire Department, Squad 2

As part of our paramedic program curriculum we are all required to take the IFSTA Principles of Extrication class. This is a 40 hour program designed to instruct us in ways to be more effective in rescuing patients from a wide range of dangerous situations.
We are taught skills that run the gamut from vehicle stabilization, to disentanglement, and safe patient removal from vehicles. The class provides an opportunity for all of us to get some hands-on experience with a lot of cool tools! Everyone should have a set of Hurst tools...
We worked on a couple of junkers in the parking lot behind Squad 2, in Bridgeport.

This is America. In America we like to have a good time. Maybe, poke a little fun. Maybe not. But, if you don't find any of this funny and take offense... Well tough. Sue me. Bite me. Treat me like a fool...

This is a sweet truck! No denying it.

The crew assembles...

No thanks. we don't want any coffee.

We really should NOT have seen this!

She's here to work!

Our fearless leader!

GOOD LORD!

Ok. That's better...

Here we are dealing with our drunk, stoned, mousse-packin' patient...

She looks comfortable!

When Steve talks, everyone listens!

While the other team was rescuing our patient, this crew was rolling cars...

One, two, three...

Later the same day...

Finally, this poor lady gets on the backboard...

...touchdown!

Our second crew has started stabilizing the rollover...

This daggone lady is back in the car!

Another group chose to use high lift jacks on the roof side...

I think he is draining the Bud out of the passenger compartment!

Now we're cooking!

There's a baby in the car!!!

This is TOUGH work!

This guy looks familiar...

This is NOT as easy as it looks!

Get'er done!!!

Bob the builder cuts some glass!

This lady knows how to break glass!!!

Ya gotta love saws-alls!!!

You didn't order a convertible?!

Great stance. weight evening distributed. I'd say, it's a 9.8.

Are these tools great or what?!

This is pretty much everything we used, except the cribbing.

And then things go a little out of control!!!

OK. In any group. Doing just about anything, there are a few people...

who just take things a bit too far...

and this may just be it!!!

This is wrong on so many levels!

But it's still funny. sick. But funny!
